MCAS Cherry Point Air Show, celebrating 75 years

The airshow was held during two days, 29 and 30 april. On first day there was also the Deactivation Ceremony of VMAQT-1. VMAQT-1 has trained Prowler pilots, electronic countermeasure officers and maintainers, readying the men and women it trains to join the remaining squadrons as they continue to conduct missions in support of joint and strategic objectives. After VMAQT-1 deactivates, one of the remaining three Prowler squadrons will decommission each year until completion at the end of fiscal year 2019.

The squadron is deactivated because the Prowlers will be replaced and no new crews are needed. Go to article.

The Prowlers are not replaced by the Growler, like the Navy, but with a array of electronics on existing airframes. This is called Marine Air-Ground Task Force Electronic Warfare. MAGTF EW is a more distributed strategy where every platform contributes and functions as a sensor, shooter and sharer

I would like to thank everyone of public affairs of MCAS Cherry Point for the cooperation.
